Avkin, the wearable simulation technology company started by Amy Cowperthwait, recently received a $100,000 grant from the Delaware Division of Small Business through its inaugural EDGE Grants program.

Avkin, which manufactures and sells a product line of wearable simulation devices to hospitals and simulation centers, was one of 10 small businesses to receive an EDGE grant. The grants provide a 3-to-1 match for each dollar the business invests on expenses that improve the company’s chances of long-term success. More than 140 companies applied for the program. Winners were selected after public presentations in August.

Co-founder and CEO Amy Cowperthwait conceived the idea of wearable simulation technology while working in the School of Nursing Simulation Center and as co-founder of Healthcare Theatre.
