Grounded Early Adaptive Rehabilitation

Grounded Early Adaptive Rehabilitation
Recruitment Elena Kokoni | ekokoni@udel.edu

Herbert Tanner | 302-831-6888 | btanner@udel.edu

Purpose The purpose of the study is to examine the effectiveness of a new rehabilitation system for children with mobility impairments that are within a young age group.   We hope to offer children with mobility impairments new technologically advanced and age-appropriate rehabilitation techniques, all the while gaining knowledge about the specific biomechanics of all children in that age group, as well as effective ways of human-machine interaction, robot control, and machine vision.
Study Involvement Participation will consist of eight 1-hour sessions, twice a week, for four weeks.  During this time, your child will play games with a robot.  Children with mobility impairments will be able to move with the help of a specially designed full-body harness system. During gameplay, the child’s motion is recorded through cameras and motion sensors.
Inclusion Criteria Children, between the age of 6 months and 5 years old, who are either developing normally or have a current motor delay.

Achilles Tendon – Non Injury
Recruitment Nabeel Alghamdi | ghamdinh@udel.edu
Purpose The purpose of the study is to see how the Achilles tendon impacts a person’s tendon structure and mechanical properties, as well as function and ability to be active.
Study Involvement Participation consists of one visit, of up to 1.5 hours, at the STAR Health Sciences Complex.  Participants will be asked to jump on one leg, while function tests are being examined.  Testing also includes ultrasound imaging and a clinical exam.
Inclusion Criteria Adults, ages 30 or older, who are healthy and able to jump using only one leg.
Exclusion Criteria Must not have a history of Achilles tendon injury.
