Just for seniors…crossing the finish line!

This will be a year filled with future planning and celebration.  While it may seem overwhelming, it can be a great year as long as you look ahead and make sure that you don’t forget any important steps.

Carefully review this checklist to help you stay organized:

  • Have you met with your advisor to make sure that you’re on track for graduation? Remember…just because you have completed your course requirements doesn’t necessarily mean you have completed your minimum credit requirements for graduation and vice versa.
  • Have you checked to make sure that all of your transfer credits from other institutions have been posted to UDSIS?
  • Have you checked UDSIS to make sure your graduation term and address are accurate in the system?  You won’t receive important information about graduation if these are not correct.
  • Have you updated your Diploma Name and Diploma Address on UDSIS?
  • Have you asked faculty for letters of recommendation?  Don’t wait until the last minute!  You want to give your faculty plenty of time to write it, and it will be one less thing you need to worry about during your last semester.
  • Have you visited the Career Services Center at 401 Academy Street?  They offer great services such as workshops on resume and cover letter writing, interviewing and job search techniques.
  • Have you returned any borrowed library books and paid any overdue fines?
  • Have you paid any parking tickets you may owe to Parking Services?
  • Have you settled all other financial obligations? Student Financial Services is located in the Student Services Building on Lovett Avenue.
  • Have you ordered your cap and gown at the Bookstore?
  • Have you or your family made hotel and dinner reservations for graduation weekend?  Rooms have been known to fill a year in advance.

Here are some other reminders:

  • Watch your email for information on Commencement and Convocation ceremonies and cap & gown information. Go to http://www.udel.edu/commencement for up-to-date information.
  • Check the Commencement website for schedule and instructions for Commencement and your college/department Convocation ceremonies.
  • “Like” the University of Delaware and UD Health Sciences on Facebook to keep up with your soon-to-be alma mater!
  • If you have additional questions, call (302) 831-8073; or email chs-advise@udel.edu.

Commencement Ceremony Participation:

If you are expected to graduate in 2018-2019 or 2019-2020, the chart below will help you determine which Commencement ceremony you participate in.

June 1, 2019

May 30, 2020

2020 2020

The University has four degree certification cycles each year: at the end of the spring semester, the 2nd summer session, the fall semester, and winter session, but only ONE Commencement ceremony in May. For the ceremony, the University will print your name in the Spring Commencement program if your graduation term is listed in UDSIS for that academic year’s summer, fall, winter, spring, and the following summer.

The Commencement Program listings reflect information available approximately 6 weeks before the ceremony. Undergraduate students making changes to their major and expected graduation term after mid-April will not have that information reflected in the Commencement Program.

For additional information, please visit the Registrar’s Web Site about Graduation & Diplomas.

Participation in the commencement ceremony or having a declared expected graduation term does not confirm completion of degree requirements. Commencement is the University’s collaboration with your faculty, friends and family to celebrate your accomplishment. The official business of graduation is degree certification (by your College) and conferral (by the Registrar’s Office).

As you reflect on your time at the University of Delaware, please join your fellow classmates and make a contribution back to UD in honor of your experience and memories during the Senior Class Gift Campaign.

Also, remember to check back in with us and let us know how you are doing.  We are always happy to promote the success of our alumni on our website or in the UD Messenger.
